What Sinatra Sang

Ah, Sinatra. What else can be said about him that hasn't already been said?

Nothing. lol

Nevertheless, I am going to write something related to Frankie, but not necessarily about him, because this is about two of my best, best friends in the planet - Ed and Tina.

They're celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary today. Isn't that something? In a time when divorces go flying left and right because marriage has all but practically gone the way of the disposable camera, those two have given it what they got and made it through several exciting but backbreaking years (according to Tina) that were fun and annoying at the same time (according to Ed).

Anyway, back to Sinatra. He had this little song, see. It was composed by Jimmy Van Heusen, with lyrics by Sammy Cahn. It was titled "Love and Marriage" and it's a funny look at what else, that time honored tradition of staying together even after the raging hormones-induced passion has mellowed down to a comfortable acceptance of each other's weaknesses and still loving each other, just the same.

Ed and Tina are firm believers in KISSING (no, dummy, I meant keeping it sweet and simple) and they celebrated their 25th anniversary, just the two of them, by eating in a Chinese restaurant that Ed loved. Tina said she had wanted to eat in a place where the menu featured crabs and crabs alone, but she gave in to Ed, because she wanted to make him happy.

In exchange, Ed said he'd reconsider Singapore and go with Tina on her suggestion of a Hong Kong vacation come December.

See? Tina isn't such a doormat after all, right? Great negotiating skills. Wise babe. (hey, Tina... now that I've said that, can I already have the pot roast you promised to make for me two months ago? LOL)

How about I make a bargain with you though? How about you cook not only for Ed and the kids, but also add me from today until December 1st? In exchange, I'll do my best to come up with two all-expense paid vacations to where else, Hong Kong

Don't worry, my business partner won't mind. He's your husband, after all. ;)

Happy anniversary, guys! Here's the lyrics of "Love and Marriage".   Click on the link and enjoy. Yeah, I know the song is older than any of us three, but hey, it's the thought that matters, right? And no, Tina, I am not a cheapskate. :)
Love and Marriage
as sung by: Frank Sinatra
Composer/Lyricist: Van Heusen/Cahn

Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage
This I tell you, brother
You can't have one without the other

Love and marriage, love and marriage
It's an institute you can't disparage
Ask the local gentry
And they will say it's elementary

Try, try, try to separate them
It's an illusion
Try, try, try, and you will only come
To this conclusion

Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like the horse and carriage
Dad was told by mother
You can't have one, you can't have none, you can't have one without the other!

No Sir!
... Now, if only Justin Bieber  wouldn't revive this song....
